Sustainability
At Chayah, we strive for more than just offering handmade products. Our mission is intertwined with sustainability and creating lasting impact, not only for the artisans we work with but also for the broader world. Our work seamlessly aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, including combating poverty, promoting gender equality, and supporting fair economic growth. We believe in responsible production processes and building collaborations that contribute to a sustainable and equitable future. Discover how we create our impact by working according to these global standards.
-
Combating Poverty
At Chayah, we believe in creating fair opportunities for artisans in developing countries. By bringing their handmade products to the Dutch and European markets, we provide a stable income and promote the economic independence of these communities. This way, we break the vicious cycle of poverty and offer a better perspective for the future.
-
No More Hunger
With every purchase, you support artisans who often live in areas where food insecurity is a significant issue. By providing these individuals with fair compensation for their work, you help them gain access to sufficient food for themselves and their families, thus contributing to the reduction of hunger.
-
Education and Training
Through our partners, we support artisans who are often trained in craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. This not only enhances their skills but also provides valuable lifelong learning experiences that increase their job market opportunities and strengthen their communities.
-
Gender Equality
Many of our products are made by female artisans who often lack fair opportunities in the labor market. Chayah is committed to the economic empowerment of women, enabling them to achieve financial independence through their craftsmanship. This not only improves their lives but also those of their families and communities.
-
Honest work
We provide artisans access to the international market, which not only gives them a fair income but also contributes to economic growth in their regions. Promoting safe and fair working conditions is essential in this process. Chayah stands for sustainable economic growth through fair trade and transparent collaboration.
-
Equal Income
One of our core values is to create equal economic opportunities for people in less developed countries. By providing fair wages for artisan work, we reduce income inequality and ensure that talent and dedication are always rewarded, regardless of the geographical location of the makers.
-
Handmade Products
Chayah focuses on handmade products that are often locally and sustainably produced. These products are not only unique but also more environmentally friendly as they require less energy-intensive production methods. By supporting artisans who prioritize sustainable production, we contribute to responsible consumption patterns.
-
Collaborations
Collaboration is the key to our success. Chayah collaborates with local organizations and partners such as Oyetu to enhance the impact of our work. By forming strong partnerships, we not only strengthen the communities of the artisans but also support the organizations in making an even greater impact.
-
Preserving culture & tradition
Chayah not only contributes to economic sustainability but also helps preserve local culture and artisanal traditions. By supporting artisans and bringing their craftsmanship to international markets, we ensure that age-old techniques and traditions are maintained. This preserves cultural identity and fosters appreciation for unique, handmade products worldwide.

Shipping & Delivery
We work together with PostNL. This delivery service is super sustainable and has low CO2 emissions, ensuring that your delivery has no negative impact.
The products are currently brought to the Netherlands via air freight. This naturally causes CO2 emissions, which is why we are actively working to make this shipping as sustainable as possible.
-
Sustainable materials
The products are made using natural materials found in nature, such as palm leaves for woven baskets, clay for vases, and natural dyes. The products are also delivered in sustainable packaging materials, ensuring a positive impact.
-
Returning
Are you not satisfied with your product? To make it as sustainable as possible, you may donate, give away, or recycle your product, and you will receive your money back or a new product from us.
